"We have such a feeling of gratitude and appreciation for Chuck Owings and Short Hill Construction. After spending a few years in a Loudoun County new-housing development, we bought an older, much smaller home on a beautiful property in a peaceful, country neighborhood, seeking a little more space and privacy. We knew the house was too small for us and our three children, but believed we could renovate and add onto the small house.

With a stroke of luck, we pulled Short Hill out of the phone book, and Chuck came to see us three days after we moved in. With a sense of what it was that we were looking for as a result of our phone conversation, Chuck literally took one walk around the perimeter of the house, caught a vision of what we could do, and drew a free-hand sketch of what he was thinking. Seven months later, almost to the day, Short Hill completed the very house that he had sketched - on time and within budget. His vision, and our dream, had become a reality.

It obviously didn't happen over night. There were many iterations of design drawings, last minute changes, unexpected challenges. We had to discuss a budget. We had to work out financing. He had to determine how he was actually going to build this beautiful cape cod onto the existing one-level rambler. It took some very good luck - a concrete patio in the back proved to be sturdy enough for the foundation, which saved any additional foundation work, not to mention a ton of money.

But in the end, Chuck and the Short Hill gang proved to be professional in every sense of the word. His design was structurally sound and realistic. He kept open communication throughout the entire project from conception, through design and construction. His crews were hard working, obviously very skilled, reliable and dependable. His subs were equally reliable and dependable and did quality work. In spite of a number of changes after the original contract was signed, the project came in under budget. Most importantly the project was completed on time in the three month schedule that Chuck projected. (We had moved into an apartment with three children while the project was underway - we really needed them to finish on time!)

Since the original project, which was completed a year ago, we've also had Short Hill out to put a new roof on our detached garage. In addition to giving the old garage a "face lift", the project gave us a 12' x 27' room above the garage - perfect for our home office - as well a ton of additional storage space.

We simply can't say enough about Chuck Owings and the Short Hill crew. We can't imagine how things would have worked out for us had we not pulled Short Hill out of the phone book that day. Thanks Chuck!"

"We have received so many compliments on our sunroom! The addition really expands our home and gives us a panormamic view. The sunroom is so light and cheerful and has become the "gathering place" for our family.

At times when I have had other workmen here, they have also commented on the expert workmanship and design. The window placement is perfect, and now we can really appreciate all of the beautiful seasonal changes. It's always my year round room of choice. We never imagined that adding a sunroom could make such a difference in our home!

We heard horror storied from friends about dewlayed building projects, and we were reluctant to embark on renovations. We were optimistic after our first planning session with you and appreciated the attention you gave to our planning requests and inquiries. Your projection dates for the various stages of the work were very accurate, and we were pleases witn your work crews. I normally prefer to be home when someone is working here, but I felt very comfortable about leaving when they were in charge.

When we decided to enlarge our master bath and closet, we knew that we coudl count on you and your team at Short Hill Design. We wonder now why we waited so long to make that improvement. Our older home has been transformed by the sunroom, our new bathroom, and the beautiful portico you added last year. You incorporoated our changes so skillfully into our existing home design and there is no "add-on" feeling.

Slightly over a year ago, we completed an addition and a remodel of our home.

The remodel was performed by Short Hill Design and Construction. The remodel and addition consisted of a remodel of the kitchen and the addition of a large room above the garage and the removal, relocation and enlargement of the mud room.

As described, the project was fairly extensive and could quite easily have been a problem.

We have been very happy with the result of our project and in our relations with the people of SHDC. We would not hesitate to use SHDC for another project.
